Simon joined Schlich & Co in October 2008 following an academic research career. He is a trainee patent attorney and has a variety of experience in patent filing and prosecution in the UK, Europe and farther afield. Simon obtained a PGCert in Intellectual Property with Distinction in 2009.

Simon has a BSc in Neuroscience from Aberdeen University, UK, where he specialised in pharmacology, physiology, biochemistry, molecular & cell biology and biophysics. After graduating with first class honours, he obtained significant research experience using a variety of research methods such as electrophysiology, molecular biological techniques, fluorescence imaging and computer-based modelling. This experience was obtained first at University College London (UCL), where he was awarded a PhD in Physiology for his studies on the biophysics and pharmacology of neurotransmission. Simon then trained as a postdoctoral research associate at UCL, Weill Cornell Medical College in New York City and the Medical Research Council Laboratory of Molecular Biology in Cambridge, UK. Simon has published a number of articles in high-quality journals, including Nature, Neuron, Nature Neuroscience and the Journal of Neuroscience.
