Helen L Henderson, BSc PhD

Helen qualified as a Chartered Patent Attorney in 2010 and has a wide variety of experience in UK and worldwide patent drafting, filing and prosecution. While principally specialising in life sciences and biotechnology, Helen has also been involved in drafting patent applications in the mechanical field, including processes for the thermal treatment of waste, methods of manufacture of carbon-fibre reinforced polymers and pharmaceutical packaging. Helen's day-to-day practice includes extensive work on European patent applications and oppositions, including attending Oral Proceedings at the European Patent Office. Helen also has experience of filing Petitions to Make Special under US law and preparing Freedom to Operate reports for proposed new products as well as filing, prosecution and opposition of UK and European Trade marks. As part of her practice Helen works closely with clients on intellectual property portfolio strategy and management to ensure that their portfolios provide cost-effective protection for their commercial interests.

Helen has a PhD in molecular biology from Bristol University where she wrote her thesis on molecular, cellular and endocrine mechanisms underlying the intrapituitary control of fertility. During her studies Helen presented work at international research conferences and has published several papers in peer-reviewed journals. For her undergraduate studies Helen was awarded a first class honours degree by Bristol University, where she specialised in biomedical sciences and neuroendocrinology.
