Andrew has a degree in Natural Sciences from Cambridge University, UK, specialising in genetics, with additional studies in molecular cell biology, biochemistry, chemistry, biology of cells, crystalline materials and mathematics. He was subsequently awarded a DPhil by the University of Oxford for his research on the regulation of globin gene expression carried out at the Institute of Molecular Medicine, Oxford, UK. He qualified as a European Patent Attorney and Chartered Patent Attorney in 2005.
Andrew has experience of worldwide patent filing and prosecution on behalf of a wide range of clients, ranging from small academic and commercial clients to multi-national pharmaceutical companies.

Andrew's practice has principally been before the European Patent Office and the UK Patent Office, but he has also handled patent applications in the US, Australia, Japan and other territories. His work has principally been in the field of biotechnology (including genetics, molecular biology and cell biology) and has also included a range of chemical and mechanical cases.

Representative technologies within Andrew's experience include: protein- and DNA-based vaccines, including Neisserial vaccines; novel DNA and protein molecules and associated therapeutic applications; therapeutic antibodies; stem cell selection and modification; transgenic animals and cloning methods in mammalian and avian species; tissue culture media and supplements; microbiological asays; microbiological cloning reagents and methods; medical devices; sterilisation and processing of pharmaceuticals; and food processing and purification technology.
Andrew has also represented clients in contentious work in Europe and the UK. Notably, Andrew assisted in defending the "Edinburgh" patent during EPO Opposition Proceedings. Andrew also has experience of filing applications for Supplementary Protection Certificates in many countries.
